Highland ponies

The Highland Pony is a strong, hardy pony, native to the Scottish Highlands and Islands. Because of  where they come from, they are very well adapted for severe weather, with a thick coat that allows them to live out in the rain and snow all year round. Although they are tough and hardy, Highland Ponies are known for their kindly nature. Once used as a work horse, today the Highland Pony is used for driving, trekking and riding. Dun coloured highland ponies can have primitive markings, which include a dorsal stripe down their hind quarters and zebra-like marking on their legs.
