The lake at the Blair Drummond Safari Park

Join us for the BIAZA BioBlitz!

20 August 2025

While our big-ticket animals often steal the spotlight, Blair Drummond is also buzzing with native wildlife – and we’d love your help to spot it!

From the 25th to the 31st of August, we’re taking part in BIAZA’s Spotted on Site BioBlitz, a fun nationwide challenge where zoos and aquariums across the UK record as many wild species as possible.

All you need to do is download the free iNaturalist UK app and snap pictures of any wild plants, animals, or fungi you find around the park. Every observation is added to the BioBlitz leaderboard and contributes to vital biodiversity research projects here in the UK and across the world.

And here’s the really exciting part: iNaturalist observations have already reshaped science in incredible ways. A birdwatcher’s photo of a moth on a hotel balcony helped rediscover a species lost for decades, while a casual walk led one community member to uncover a completely new praying mantis species. Every day, millions of similar snapshots are helping scientists track climate change, guide conservation decisions, and even rediscover species once thought extinct. Check out iNaturalist’s Executive Director’s TED Talk about these amazing finds here.

That means your photos of red squirrels, butterflies, or even fungi at Blair Drummond could be part of something much bigger – contributing to real research and conservation efforts worldwide.

By joining in, you’ll not only help showcase the amazing variety of life that thrives here at Blair Drummond, but you’ll also be part of a global citizen science project with real conservation impact.

So, next time you’re exploring, keep your eyes peeled – you never know what wild wonders you might discover.

Let’s put Blair Drummond on the map this summer!
