Spring has sprung at Blair Drummond, and there’s new life popping up all over the park. Fancy helping us spot it?
From the 23rd to the 29th of March, we’re taking part in BIAZA’s Spotted on Site Spring BioBlitz – a nationwide challenge where zoos and aquariums across the UK record as many wild species as possible.
Getting involved is easy. Just download the free iNaturalist UK app and snap photos of any wild plants, animals, or fungi you find during your visit. Every observation is added to the Spring BioBlitz leaderboard and contributes to important biodiversity research, both here in the UK and around the world.
And here’s the really exciting part – your sightings genuinely matter. Previous iNaturalist observations have helped scientists rediscover species thought to be lost, identify entirely new ones, and track how wildlife is responding to climate change. Check out iNaturalist’s Executive Director’s TED Talk about these amazing finds here.
So whether you’re a budding wildlife expert or just curious about what’s growing, flying, or scurrying nearby, why not give it a go? You might spot anything from early spring flowers and busy pollinators to hidden fungi and curious insects.
By taking part, you’re helping us build a bigger picture of the incredible biodiversity right here at Blair Drummond – and playing a small part in global conservation at the same time.
Next time you’re exploring, keep your eyes peeled… spring is full of surprises.
Let’s see what we can discover together!
