This Saturday the 25th of July, we’re inviting you to discover the incredible wildlife that lives all around us as we celebrate Nature Conservation Day with a fun-filled day of hands-on activities, expert talks and family-friendly experiences.
Conservation is at the heart of everything we do, and while our visitors come to see amazing species from around the world, Nature Conservation Day is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the wildlife we share our own landscapes with. From busy bumblebees and beautiful butterflies to elusive bats and hardworking beavers, you’ll discover just how important these native species are – and how we can all help protect them.
From 10:00am to 4:00pm, our Conservation Village will be buzzing with activity. Meet conservation experts from the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), Beaver Trust, Central Scotland Bat Group, Butterfly Conservation and the RSPB, who’ll be sharing their knowledge through interactive displays, fascinating wildlife artefacts, crafts and family activities designed to inspire the next generation of conservationists.
There will be plenty of opportunities to get involved throughout the day. Join a guided Bumblebee Safari (11.30am + 14.30pm) or Bird Walk (13.30pm + 14.30pm), get up close with freshwater mini beasts, investigate the secrets hidden inside an owl pellet, examine natural treasures under pocket microscopes, or discover fascinating native wildlife artefacts at our touch table. Younger visitors can enjoy colouring activities, while everyone is invited to make a simple pledge to help nature and add their pebble to our growing conservation display.
As part of the event, we’ll also be raising funds through our Link to the Wild fundraising initiative, supporting our Education Team’s chosen charity, the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, alongside our other conservation charities. Take a chance on our wildlife-themed tombola, pick up one of our popular bumblebee stickers, and help us make a real difference for wildlife.
Our Conservation Village will be located beside the woodland area between the lion viewing platform and the large wooden fort, opposite the BBQ area. If the weather has other plans, we’ll simply move into the safari marquee so the celebrations can continue.
