Peafowl

Let's learn

Peafowl are famous for their dazzling displays and vibrant colours, but did you know it’s only the males, known as peacocks, that fan out those stunning tail feathers? Peacocks spread their colourful tails in a breathtaking display to attract the attention of peahens. Each feather is decorated with striking ‘eye’ patterns in shimmering blues, greens, and golds. Along with their striking appearance, you can often hear their loud, distinctive calls echoing through their habitats.

Beyond their beauty, peafowl are surprisingly resourceful. They’re omnivores, feasting on everything from plants and seeds to insects and small reptiles. And while they spend much of their time on the ground, they can take flight to escape danger, often roosting high in trees at night for safety.
