International Beaver Day at Blair Drummond

27 March 2025

On Saturday the 29th of March, we’re making a splash for both World Water Day and International Beaver Day with a day full of fun, hands-on activities. Come along and celebrate these incredible ecosystem engineers!

From 11am – 4pm, join our Education team in the white marquee by the BBQS. Here, you’ll have the chance to dive into the fascinating world of beavers and discover the vital role they play in maintaining healthy waterways. Did you know that Scotland began reintroducing beavers in 2009 as part of the Scottish Beaver Trial at Knapdale Forest in Argyll? Since then, they’ve been released in other areas, including Tayside and Perthshire, and now number around 1,500 across the country! Beavers are nature’s engineers, helping to restore wetland habitats, improve water quality, and reduce flooding.

Build Like a Beaver!
Beavers are nature’s ultimate builders, using their skills to create dams that help conserve water and maintain healthy ecosystems. Now it’s your turn! Try your hand at building a beaver-style dam and see if you can make one that holds strong – just like a real beaver’s!

Explore Beaver Artefacts
Ever wondered what a beaver’s skull looks like? Now’s your chance to find out! Get a close-up view of a real beaver skull with its signature orange teeth, and even inspect some wood that’s been gnawed by beavers themselves. These artefacts are a fantastic way to understand how beavers shape their environment.

This event has been created in partnership with the University of Stirling, and we’re thrilled to work together to raise awareness for water conservation and showcase the importance of these magnificent mammals.

So, if you’re visiting us on the 29th of March, make sure to swing by the Education Stall and dive into the fascinating world of beavers. We can’t wait to see you there! Book now here.
