There are some fluffy new faces waiting to meet you in Pets’ Farm!
We’ve recently welcomed four giant rabbits to the park and, while they might already look impressive, they’re only around four months old. As they grow, these boys will become much bigger than your average bunny.
Our newest arrivals are a mix of Continental Giant and French Lop rabbits – two breeds renowned for their calm, gentle personalities. French Lops are often nicknamed the ‘gentle giants’ of the rabbit world, and it’s easy to see why.
Adult giant rabbits can weigh between 5kg and 10kg – about the same as a small dog – making them several times larger than a wild European rabbit.
Speaking of wild rabbits, did you know the European rabbit isn’t native to Britain? It originally comes from the Iberian Peninsula in south-west Europe and was introduced to Britain by people many centuries ago. Today’s wild and domestic rabbits in the UK are all descended from those introduced populations.
Some giant rabbits have even become record breakers. A Continental Giant called Darius once held the Guinness World Record as the longest rabbit ever recorded, measuring an incredible 1.29 metres from nose to tail!
Our four new arrivals have settled into their new home brilliantly, but there’s one important thing missing – their names.
We’ve narrowed it down to two themes. Should they become Rodney, Trigger, Albert and Del Boy, inspired by Only Fools and Horses? Or do you think Rex, Hamm, Woody and Buzz from Toy Story are a better fit?
