Hello Harper

25 July 2024

We’re excited to share some wonderful news! We’ve welcomed our second baby Barbary macaque of the year. Born on June 19th to our cherished macaque Eadie, the little one has been named Harper by her dedicated keepers. Both Eadie and Harper are doing well, and Eadie is proving to be an exceptional first-time mum.  Harper joins baby Hayley who was born earlier in the year in May.

Our Keeper Morgan Meichan shared, “Eadie has taken to motherhood with remarkable ease, and it’s wonderful to see Harper thriving under her care. Harper is already showing signs of confidence and curiosity. This lively behaviour is reminiscent of both her mother and her grandmother Coral, who are well-known for their spirited and engaging personalities.”

Barbary macaques are a unique and fascinating species, known for their vestigial tails and expressive faces. Native to the mountainous regions of North Africa and Gibraltar, Barbary macaques face numerous threats in the wild, including habitat loss and the illegal pet trade. Sadly, there are now fewer than 8,000 Barbary macaques left in the wild, and they are classified as endangered.

At Blair Drummond Safari Park, we’re committed to supporting the conservation of these remarkable primates. Through our Link to the Wild initiative, we fundraise for the Barbary Macaque Awareness and Conservation project to help protect wild macaques and their habitats.

We’re thrilled to invite you to come and see Harper in our macaque drive-thru.  Come and be a part of her journey and join us in celebrating this joyous occasion.
