Planning a summer visit? Here’s what to know

23 July 2025

There’s nothing quite like a summer day at the Safari Park – sunshine, ice cream, and the chance to get up close to some of the world’s most incredible animals. Here are a few simple tips to help you make the most of your visit.

Don’t forget the sunscreen

There’s plenty of shade to be found around the park, but a lot of our spaces are out in the open. Sunscreen, hats and sunglasses will help keep everyone comfortable.  If you forget yours, don’t worry – we’ve got sunscreen available to buy from our gift shops.

Pack for all weather

Scottish summers can be unpredictable, and we’ve seen a lot of people caught out by a surprise shower. We do sell ponchos, but it’s always better to bring your own waterproofs if you can.

Stay hydrated

It’s easy to forget to drink enough water when you’re busy exploring. Our food outlets are happy to refill your water bottles free of charge – just ask at the counter.

Expect some lazy animals

On particularly warm days, you might find some of our animals are a little less active than usual. That’s totally normal. We recommend swinging by their habitats at different times of day, or catching one of our animal talks to learn more about their routines.

A note about wasps

Warm, wet weather has led to a sharp rise in wasp numbers across the UK this summer, and like many outdoor attractions, we’re seeing the effects. This is a nationwide issue and Rentokill has actually reported a 618% increase in wasp enquiries this June compared to last! While we’re doing our best to manage the situation (including working with pest control experts and placing traps around the park), we know they can be a nuisance.

We recommend keeping food and drinks covered, avoiding floral patterns and strong perfumes, and staying calm if a wasp gets close. It’s also always worth wiping sticky little hands and faces after eating any sugary treats. If you or someone in your group has an allergy, please bring any necessary medication with you – it’s always better to be prepared.  Our team is trained in First Aid and always on hand to help if needed but we can’t supply this medication.

Other handy things to pack

  • Snacks for little ones
  • Hand sanitiser

  • A picnic blanket

  • Tissues or wipes

  • A power bank for your phone (you’ll want photos!)

Whether you’re here for the drive-through safari, to chill with a picnic, or to catch the flying displays and sea lion demos, we want your visit to be enjoyable and stress-free. A little forward planning means more time for the fun stuff – and that’s what summer days out are all about.
