Purple Tuesday

12 November 2024

At Blair Drummond Safari Park, we believe that accessibility isn’t just something we think about on special days – it’s a commitment we live every day. We’re continually working to improve our facilities, and with partners like AccessAble guiding us, we’re dedicated to making sure that everyone can enjoy their visit to the fullest.

Today is Purple Tuesday, a nationwide movement that celebrates accessibility and encourages organisations everywhere to become more inclusive for all. To mark this important day, we’d love to share what we’re doing to make Blair Drummond an accessible, safe, and enjoyable space for every visitor.

Our Commitment to Accessibility

  • Free Admission for Carers
Visitors requiring assistance receive free admission for one carer. Just add a ‘carer’ ticket to your booking, and be prepared to show relevant documentation upon arrival.
  • Accessible Parking & Toilets
With over 70 dedicated disabled parking spaces clearly marked on our map, getting close to the park entrance is easy. You’ll also find disabled toilets throughout the park, and our Changing Places facility near the disabled car park, accessible via a radar key.
  • Wheelchair Accessibility
Most pathways are wheelchair-friendly, and there are designated spaces at our Bird of Prey display. A limited number of wheelchairs in various sizes are available from the gift shop for a refundable deposit of £20.
  • Assistance Dogs Welcome
Assistance dogs are welcome, though we ask that you notify our admissions staff on arrival. For the safety of our animals, some areas are restricted, including our drive-thru reserves and certain enclosures.
  • Neurodiverse Visitors
While we don’t have a dedicated quiet space, our large estate always offers somewhere peaceful to escape to. For visitors sensitive to noise, ear defenders are available from the gift shop with a returnable deposit of £10. We also recommend visiting mid-week during term-time, when the park is at its most peaceful.
  • Hidden Disabilities Scheme
We’re proud to be part of the Hidden Disabilities Scheme. If you or a loved one would like a little extra support, ask for a sunflower sticker from our admissions team. This discreet symbol lets our staff know you may need extra assistance or a bit more time.
  • Guides for Accessibility
We’ve partnered with AccessAble to provide detailed guides on every area of the park, so you can plan your visit with confidence. We’re also listed on Euan’s Guide, and we’re always looking for ways to improve accessibility – your feedback is welcome!

We’re proud to be part of the wider Purple Tuesday mission, and we’re continually working to make Blair Drummond Safari Park an even more inclusive and welcoming space for all our guests. If you have questions or need support planning your visit, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

And, if you’re looking for a quiet, relaxed visit, November is the perfect time to come by! With smaller crowds, you’ll be able to explore our 160-acre estate at your own pace, finding plenty of peaceful spaces to enjoy. And, until the 29th of November, we’re offering reduced-price tickets – a wonderful chance to experience everything the park has to offer with extra savings.
