At Blair Drummond Safari Park, the safety of our visitors, staff, and local community is always our top priority. For many years, we’ve raised concerns with Transport Scotland about the dangerous stretch of the A84 that runs directly past our entrance – but despite repeated requests, no action has been taken.

Why we’re concerned

The A84 is a fast-moving road with poor visibility at our junction, and traffic levels have only continued to grow:

  • Visitors travelling to Blair Drummond Safari Park and neighbouring Briarlands Farm use this stretch daily.
  • It’s one of the main tourist routes heading north to the Highlands – a journey that’s more popular than ever.
  • Several new businesses have opened in the area, adding even more vehicles to an already busy road.
  • Many small farms need to access the road using slow-moving vehicles such as tractors.
  • A number of new houses have been built locally, bringing additional residential traffic.
  • There is a primary school on this road, yet no speed reduction measures are in place.
  • Camphill, a residential care facility for individuals with learning disabilities, also relies on this road for access.

In its current form, this section of the A84 is simply not fit for purpose.

What we’ve asked for

Over the years, we’ve suggested a number of safety measures that could make a real difference, including:

  • A reduced speed limit
  • A slip road
  • A roundabout
  • A pedestrian crossing to help people cross safely from the other side

Unfortunately, none of these proposals have been taken forward.

The reality on the ground

Accidents on this stretch occur far too often. There have been five serious collisions in the past few weeks alone.

While we do everything we can to support in these situations, the truth is that we don’t have any jurisdiction over the road. Like many of our customers, we find this both frustrating and deeply concerning.

Our call for change

We strongly believe more must be done to improve safety on this busy road – and we’ll continue to press for action. Our goal is simple: to make sure visitors, staff, and the wider community can travel to and from Blair Drummond safely.
