We’re shining a spotlight on our sea lions this weekend, with a full day of activities celebrating these playful characters and the wider world they’re part of.
From 10am to 4pm on Saturday the 2nd of May, you’ll find us just outside the sea lion habitat, where there’s plenty to get stuck into. You can test your aim with a sea lion bean bag throw, match pinnipeds from across the globe, and explore our touch table with real artefacts. There are also fun fact boards and personality posters, so you can get to know each of our sea lions a little better.
Alongside the fun, we’re taking a closer look at plastic pollution and its impact on marine life. You can follow the journey of everyday items from land to sea, see how long they take to break down, and discover simple swaps that can help reduce ocean waste.
Although California sea lions aren’t endangered, they play an important role here as ambassadors. They help us tell the stories of species that are under threat, and why protecting our oceans is so important.
As part of the day, we’ll be raising funds for our conservation initiative, Link to the Wild. This year, our sea lion team have chosen to support Caithness Seal Rehab & Rescue as their chosen charity, who work along the Caithness coastline to rescue, treat and release common and grey seals.
You can also get involved with our pebble pledges, choosing one small action to help protect marine life.
Our tombola will be running throughout the day, with a range of amazing prizes up for grabs, including animal artwork, ride tokens, shop goodies, a penguin feed and a one-off sea lion meet and greet, where you’ll get the chance to feed our sea lion, Oscar.
Pop by, have a go, and see what you discover along the way.
