Baby macaque at Blair Drummond Safari Park

Meet our third baby macaque of the year!

16 July 2025

Spring and summer have brought us three adorable new macaque arrivals – and we’re excited to introduce our latest little lady, Isa! Born on 21st June to mum Orcus, Isa is the third baby macaque to arrive this year – joining Isaac and Iona.

Following our tradition, all baby macaque names this year start with the letter ‘I’. To decide on Isa’s name, we let mum Orcus do the honours by presenting her with two ice lollies, each marked with a name carved from apple – ‘Isa’ and ‘Islay’. After a thoughtful lick and a tasty nibble, Orcus chose Isa.

And if you’re a fan of the TV show, Still Game, the name might sound familiar. Isa, the character, is sharp, nosy and never short of something to say – we’ll have to wait and see if our Isa follows in those footsteps!

Right now, Isa is spending most of her time snuggled close to Orcus, soaking up all the care she needs. We can’t wait to see her playful spirit emerge as she grows and explores her surroundings.

Barbary macaques are an endangered species, with wild populations under threat due to habitat loss and illegal pet trade. Here at Blair Drummond, we’re proud to play our part in their conservation – caring for these incredible animals, raising awareness, and inspiring visitors to appreciate their importance.

You can visit the macaque reserve to catch a glimpse of Isa and her growing troop. We’ll be keeping you updated as Isa (and her fellow I-named friends!) grow, explore, and start to show off their personalities – so keep an eye on our socials for all the monkey business.
